Nurses and care workers lead fast-paced days filled with various tasks: monitoring patients, performing procedures, preparing patients for examinations, distributing food, assisting with eating and drinking when necessary, washing patients, changing bed linens, and properly documenting essential information. One particularly time-consuming and concentration-demanding task is the preparation, distribution, and administration of medications to those under care.

High-quality medication dispensing systems help save both time and space while ensuring safe medication administration. Merianto Medical has developed specialized medication cabinets tailored to the needs of nurses and care workers, making medication storage more systematic and convenient. A key component of these cabinets is the dispensing systems that organize and move medications. “We use Wiegand’s blue dispensing systems in our medication cabinets, which have been developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals to ensure the highest level of safety in medication storage, transport, preparation, and distribution,” said Raimo Grichin, CEO of Merianto Medical.

Medication dispenser

A medication dispenser provides a clear overview of which medications need to be administered to the patient throughout the day. Labels can be added to the dispensers, indicating the patient’s details and the scheduled time for medication administration. This makes medication handling in nursing homes and hospitals safe and easy to follow—even for the patient themselves. Each type of medication has its own designated place—ointments, syringes, and liquid medications all have separate compartments. A filled medication dispenser can be stored and distributed using dispensing trays or weekly trays.

Medication dispensers and cups can be attached to a medication tray. This allows medications to be distributed quickly and safely in rooms with multiple patients. The tray can hold either daily dispensers for seven patients or a seven-day supply of medications for a single patient. The dispensing trays are designed to fit perfectly into Merianto Medical’s ISO modular system trolleys and cabinets.

Weekly dispensing systems

In nursing homes and hospitals, medications are often prepared a week in advance to make the daily distribution process more efficient. When there are many patients, this task can take up several valuable working hours for nurses and care teams. A well-organized weekly system helps optimize workflows and is especially well-suited for long-term care, where medications are taken regularly. Weekly medications for patients are typically prepared in a dedicated procedure or medication room—or even directly at the pharmacy.

Weigand’s medication trays, dispensers, and weekly systems can be combined or used separately as needed. All dispensing systems can be conveniently stored and efficiently transported using Merianto Medical’s ISO modular system cabinets and trolleys. “With these blue medication dispensing systems, nurses and caregivers are one step closer to the patient. When the tools support the workflow, there is more time to connect with the patient and build a relationship of trust,” added Grichin.
